For Education Researchers

The Education Media Centre is an independent charity which aims to increase the public and media awareness of the findings of education research.

Many researchers pursue careers in education because they want to make a positive difference and to shape the best possible education for children and adults.

The Education Media Centre can help research experts reach a wider audience and maximise the impact of their work.

In response to media enquiries, the EMC connects researchers with national journalists. It helps those researchers to communicate their work with confidence in a way which is both accurate and media friendly.

We are building a database of researchers and academics with a track record of expertise in areas of education which interest the public and attract media attention. Our contacts are both experts in their field and also willing and able to engage with the media.

Many of these experts have been recommended by the EMC’s Research Advisory Panel of senior and highly regarded education research figures, and the EMC works with researchers who share a commitment to the EMC’s Operating Principles.

The EMC organises live briefings  at which research experts can inform national journalists of the findings of studies behind long running or upcoming issues. Researchers with fresh insights into current education issues can also turn to the EMC to help showcase their new ideas.

The EMC is independent and impartial, with no affiliation or leaning towards any other organisation, and

it is not our role to promote an individual person or institution, but we are committed to promoting better exposure of education research to the media and the public, and we understand well that dealing with the media can be daunting to anyone who has never or only rarely had to.

EMC staff have the broadcast and journalistic experience in education to work with researchers and their press teams to offer media advice, coaching or training to researchers and academics who would like to gain more confidence dealing with journalists, improving their media communication skills and strengthening the impact of their research.
